5:  East Dollar

Species:
Rainbow Browns
Spring:
Good. Another aerated lake. Opens early and starts fast. I got caught in drifting ice flows a few years back. I had to break ice with my rod butt. No way to treat an Orvis. Fishing was great though.

Summer:  Good, prolific little lake for bugs.

Fall:
Excellent

Winter:
??
Location:  North of Valleyview, 1 1/2 hours from Grande Prairie. Watch for the sign on the left side of the road.

Access Point:  There is a half assed dock (with maybe a foot of water under it), clean outhouse, but no fish cleaning station.

KM from GP:  125

Road Conditions:
Paved hiway

Best Time of Year:  My favourite time is early spring.

Water quality is surprising good, even in the summer! The Rainbows and Browns are plentiful, and catchable, once you learn what they are feeding on. This is a real pothole (small in size, round, and quite deep--and a wonderful place to spend the day. No gas motors--the lake is too small! This lake is past its prime as a big fish producer but ther are plenty of respectacle trout hiding in this little gem.

Pond is just off main lake. Not much to look at but a great pond for the flyfisher. Very little backcast hazards. Suprisingly large fish can be caught. This is the lake to take that wannabe flyfisher for a casting lesson or two. Frustration factor is low and there are fish everwhere.

145:  Kakwa Falls (S of Two Lakes)

Species:
Rainbow, Grayling, Bull
Spring:
River will often be flooded out

Summer:  Early summer - river may flood out

Fall:
Best time - river more likely to be fishable

Winter:
Winter logging road frequently graded, subject to lots of snow and industrial traffic all year. Quod and Skidoo area.
Location:  Approx 40 km south of 2 Lakes Campground. 170 km from Grande Prairie

Access Point:  Gravel road ends in picnic area. Camping at Kakwa Falls not permitted. Alcohol of any kind is prohibited past the Two Lakes Campsite. Kakwa Falls and river accessible down a very steep bank.

KM from GP:  170

Road Conditions:
Gravelled road crosses Lick and other creeks at least 4 times, and barely skirts a lake. While only 40 km from Two Lakes Campground, this stretch of road can be challenging. 18 inch deep ruts and flooded muddy sections. The river crossing can be tricky. Best in late summer/fall when creeks are low. 4 wheel drive and high clearance necessary. Take a good spare, winch and tow rope. Getting a rescue tow out will be v expensive.

Best Time of Year:  Fall

Incredible views and scenery. Wildlife can be plentiful. Many choose to drive their vehicles to Sherman Meadows and use a quod for the remaining 20 k. Seriously.

4:  Kakwa River Hiway 40 ( to Grande Cache)

Species:
Rainbows, Grayling, Rockies, Bull Trout
Spring:
Depends on the mountain runoff. If spring is delayed you can catch some fine fishing before it blows out. Season doesn't open until June.

Summer:  Again it is weather dependant. This river has a sizable watershed. Real good if water is clear.

Fall:
Usually the most dependable & easiest fishing is in the fall. Water levels should be low & clear.

Winter:
Closed
Location:  Highwy 40 Access One hours 100 km drive South of Grande Prairie on Hwy 40. on the way to Grande Cache Two Lakes Road 2 - 3 hour drive to about km. 2-140.

Access Point:  Hwy 40 access point enjoyable, as is provincial recreation area just downstream. Wadeable from bridge.

KM from GP:  100

Road Conditions:
Hwy 40 access is a Provincial Park with picknick and over-night camping area. There is also off road camping. Provincial Park grounds are generally well kept up , wooded cam ping area and pit toilets. A bear has been seen in campground in summer. The Two Lakes Area is also a Provincial Park The gravelled road to Two lakes is primarily for logging and oil patch industrial use. Although not impassable when wet, a difficult road for either dust or mud.

Best Time of Year:  Fall

Good dependable river. Grayling are good size. Ditto for the Bulls. Some smaller Rainbows and they are not common. Be prepared to do some walking & wading. It is a long way between pools.
