A Day In Grande Prairie!  (Things to do and places to see--where I'd take my guests.)

Day 1:

Morning:

Breakfast at The Ritz--great breakfast, reasonable prices, superb service.

Walk in Muskoseepi Park--Grande Prairie's Urban Park:

Start at the Tourist Information Bureau, under the huge sun dial, on the bypass just before the bypass turns from east->west to north->south.  It's called the "Center 2000".

While at the Bureau, pick up some maps and find out about activities of interest to you!  (Maybe the Rotary Club's Bus Tour, or some live theatre?)  Be sure to visit the "mini" Tyrrell Museum" downstairs in the Center 2000 (very mini--but very well done).

There are about three walks from here:

bullet25 to 45 Minutes:
Around the lake, 25 minutes

Canada Geese, Loons, and a beautiful view.  Stop at the log cabin and take a look at "Art In the Park".

Grande Prairie Regional College, an additional 20 minutes.
Located on the other side of the lake, GPRC's "old" building was designed by Cardinal--the aboriginal architect--and is worth seeing!

Check out the bricklaying on the "old" part of the building.  Cardinal had to threaten to fire some of the bricklayers--he wanted rough work but the bricklayers were too professional!

When you are in the "Concourse", look up!  The scalloped edges along the center well represent mud flats along a river bed.

Except for door jambs, it is rather hard to find many straight lines in the walls!

The "new" part of the building is impressive--but not as interesting!

bullet1 to 2 Hours:
Keep going straight down the hill when you get to the dam.  In about 10 minutes you will be at the Pavilion.  Kids love the mini climbing walls, and other playground equipment (including a water/spray area and outdoor swimming pool).  Have a snack from the concession while you check out the trout pond!

Be sure to visit the main G.P. Museum and Pioneer Village,  across the creek.

Head back, walking on the other side of the lake, and visit GPRC

bullet2 to 3 Hours:
All of the above, except instead of coming back after the Museum, just keep walking south!  Beautiful, tree lined, paved trails--complete with picnic areas--along Bear Creek.

Keep walking 'til 1/2 your time is gone, then return along the same trails.  Be sure to finish the walk around the lake!

Afternoon:

Lunch at
Tony Roma's--super lunch specials, friendly service, nice atmosphere.

Visit Prairie Mall, Grande Prairie's largest indoor shopping mall.

While there, have a coffee in the food court, and stock up on books for a rainy day.

Evening:

Supper at East Side Mario's
, eat in the pub and enjoy the peanuts, but try the Seafood Linguini!

Take in the theatre
, either a live performance, or one of the cinemas.

That's Day 1, more days will be added!

Not all of Grande Prairie's hotels are listed on this site;
more are being added and virtual tours of the hotels themselves are being created.
