How does it work?Whether you buy a car "on the WEB", or from a dealer's lot--you will end up buying from a dealer! The people at the other end of the WEB will refer your enquiry to a dealer. There are a few reasons you may end up with a better price.
In realityYou still need your local dealer.
In all fairness, local dealers are providing you with a real service both before and after the sale--so they'll earn your business. Currently (October 1999), only 2% of cars are "bought" over the Internet (from a Net-generated lead). However, 40% of new car buyers research and shop over the Internet! These percentages are said to be rising quickly! Finally the local dealers don't want to lose sales--so they will do their
best to be competitive. Bottom LineThe internet is great for research--but don't buy an out-of-town car to save a $1,000! |
