Since our objective is
to encourage your trying
good restaurants, we do not have reviews for
restaurants that are less
than satisfactory.
If you find a restaurant
here, it's an endorsement!
If a
restaurant is not listed
don't assume the restaurant
isn't
good--maybe we just
haven't reviewed it yet!

send us a review.)

Pet Peeves
Eating at a restaurant should be enjoyable! Some of these reviews will
mention things that get in the way of an enjoyable experience.
- Taking Water Glasses Away to be
Refilled
When the water glass runs out--it should never leave the table to be
refilled. In one restaurant, recently, the server picked up
glasses from a number of tables, filled them and brought them back.
So, who gets whose germs?
One of the criteria before we approach a restaurant to sponsor this
site--jugs of water are used to refill glasses at the table. Basic
hygiene.
- Cold Food on Cold Plates
You would think restaurants would try to serve food on hot plates, since
that would help keep the food warm. However, when food arrives on a hot
plate it usually means it sat under the heat lamps until all the items were
ready, or until the waiter/waitress picked up the plate.
Hot food on hot plates is just fine--cold food on cold plates should be
unacceptable.
- Not enough Cream and Sugar on the Table
Waiting for cream is a needless irritation and it means the server has
to make extra trips to the table.
The Golden Star will often leave a coffee jug on the table. Talk about
convenient!
- Waiting for the Bill
(from webmaster@gpab.net)
This is a tough one, often the diner is in a hurry--but the
waiter/waitress does not want to appear to be rushing them.
A waitress at the Ritz had a wonderful solution. She dropped off the
bill, and asked us to call her over if we wanted anything else. If we
were in a hurry we could leave, otherwise we knew we were welcome to stay!
On the other hand, if I'm in a hurry I should tell the waiter/waitress, and
have payment ready so they don't have to make a second trip to the table.
- No Water on the Table
It is so nice to sit down and receive a glass of cold water without
asking. One thing about those stubble-jumpers, in Saskatchewan this is
common practice.
- Flies
Oh, but I hate flies in a restaurant. Right up there with unclean
washrooms.
